The Blowdry Brush Breakdown: Effortless Volume, Faster Finish

Let me start by saying this: I don’t blow-dry my hair often. But when I do, I want it quick, easy, and effective. That’s where blowdryer brushes come in—and yes, I’m officially a fan.

If holding a round brush in one hand and a blowdryer in the other feels like trying to pat your head and rub your stomach at the same time, you’re not alone. These multitasking tools combine both steps into one, making them a game-changer for anyone who wants a smoother style without the coordination circus.

Here’s how I use mine:

I never bring it to soaking-wet hair. I let my hair air dry (or rough-dry with a regular blowdryer and nozzle) until it’s about 80–95% dry. Then, I bring the blowdryer brush through to polish, lift, or add movement—depending on my mood. It gives me the perfect finish without too much effort. And yes, it’s especially handy for reviving hair that’s been in a messy bun or under a shower cap. A touch of oil before brushing helps smooth things out.

Quick Note for My Curly-Haired Guests:

This technique isn’t designed for air-dried curls. But if your hair has already been blown out straight, a blowdryer brush is amazing for refreshing that style the next day or after a quick rinse. It smooths without starting from scratch—and that’s a win in my book.

My Go-To Tool (Now Retired):

Former Favorite: SRI Blowdryer Brush with Attachments

The one I use has a few interchangeable heads and works beautifully—but unfortunately, it’s no longer available. It looks like the StyleWrap Pro – 7-in-1 Coanda Air Multi Styler from Skin Research Institute is its replacement. I haven’t tried it personally, but it seems to carry the same concept forward with more versatility.

The Luxe Option Everyone Asks About:

Dyson Airwrap

Designed with multiple hair types in mind, this tool has set the bar. While I don’t have one (yet), my guests who’ve made the investment absolutely love it. As most of you know, my Dyson Supersonic dryer is my most prized tool besides my shears—so I can only imagine the Dyson Airwrap lives up to the hype. Maybe one day I’ll get to use it… assuming my daughter doesn’t swipe it first. (Seriously, she’s taken everything else.)

A Few Final Thoughts:

If you’re considering a blowdryer brush, it’s worth choosing quality. Some inexpensive models don’t regulate heat well, which can damage hair over time. Look for one with multiple heat settings and good reviews. A better model might cost a little more, but the difference in safety and performance is real—and your hair deserves it.

Bottom Line:

If you’re looking for a way to simplify your morning, extend your style, or just feel a little more put together without the full blowout commitment, a blowdryer brush might be your new best friend.
